Workspaces
Keep separate sets of sources, chats and Studio outputs apart
A workspace keeps one research context together: its sources and folders, its chats, and what Studio made from them. A question in one workspace never searches another.
Your models, plugins, license and settings are not part of a workspace. They apply to every workspace on this computer.
Your first workspace
The first time SurfSense starts, it makes a workspace called My Workspace, so there is always one to open. You can rename it or add more.
The workspace rail
Workspaces sit in the narrow rail at the far left of the window. Each one shows the first letters of its name. Click a workspace to switch to it. SurfSense remembers the last workspace you opened and returns to it the next time you start the app.
Switching does not stop anything. A reply still being written in another workspace keeps going, and its chat is marked unread when it finishes.
Create a workspace
- Click + in the workspace rail. Its tooltip reads Create workspace.
- Type a name.
- Click Create.
The new workspace opens straight away, empty. A name can be up to 200 characters.
Rename a workspace
Right-click the workspace in the rail and choose Rename. Type the new name and click Rename.
Delete a workspace
Right-click the workspace in the rail and choose Delete, then confirm with Delete workspace.
Deleting a workspace permanently deletes its chats, its sources, their indexed data and its Studio outputs. Replies still being written in it are stopped first. There is no undo and no Trash.
Your original files elsewhere on your computer are not touched: SurfSense deletes only its own copies.
Next
- Add sources to a workspace.
- Chat with them.
