YouTube
Read YouTube videos, channels, transcripts and comments
YouTube lets you work with videos without watching every one. It reads public videos, channels and playlists with their subtitles, and the comments and replies under a video.
Needs a SurfSense license. See SurfSense plugins to connect it.
Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
scrape | Reads videos from a video, channel, playlist, Shorts or hashtag link, or from a YouTube search. Each video comes with its title, description, date, length, views, likes, comment count and channel. It can also fetch subtitles in a chosen language. |
comments | Reads the comments and replies under one or more videos, with authors, text, likes and dates, top comments or newest first. |
Example prompts
- "@youtube Summarise this talk and list its main arguments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…"
- "List the last ten videos on @channelname with their view counts."
- "Pull the French subtitles of this video and translate the first five minutes."
- "What do the top comments under this video say about the product?"
Add from the web
In + › Add from the web…:
- A video link becomes one source with the video's details, its transcript and its top comments. Watch,
youtu.be, Shorts, embed and live links all work. - A channel, playlist, hashtag or search link opens as a list of its videos. Add the ones you want.
- Search YouTube itself: pick YouTube in the Search on menu under the box.
Limits
- Transcripts in English. Add from the web asks for English subtitles, so a video without an English track gets no transcript there. In a chat, ask the agent for the video's language.
- Public videos only.
- A block reads as nothing found. When YouTube refuses a request, the result can come back empty rather than as an error. Try again later.
